Human Body Fe Model Repositioning: a Step towards Posture Specific – Human Body Models (ps-hbm)
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study reports a methodology to generate anatomically correct postures of existing human body finite element models while maintaining their mesh quality. The developed method is based on computer graphics techniques and permits control over the bone kinematics followed. Initial mesh quality of the model being repositioned is quantified and maintained during the process in order to preserve the suitability of the model for subsequent use. For some critical areas (soft tissues around knee joint like capsule, menisci) where element distortion is large, mesh smoothing technique is used to improve the mesh quality. The tool developed repositions a given lower extremity model (knee joint) in just a few seconds.

Mathematical Human Body Models (HBM) are important research tools that are used to study the human response in car crash situations. Development of automotive safety systems requires the implementation of active muscle response in HBM, as novel safety systems also interact with vehicle occupants in the precrash phase. In this study, active muscle response was implemented using feedback control ...
متن کاملThe Contribution of Pre-impact Spine Posture on Human Body Model Response in Whole-body Side Impact.
The objective of the study was to analyze independently the contribution of pre-impact spine posture on impact response by subjecting a finite element human body model (HBM) to whole-body, lateral impacts. Seven postured models were created from the original HBM: one matching the standard driving posture and six matching pre-impact posture measured for each of six subjects tested in previously ...
متن کاملTHESIS FOR THE DEGREE OF LICENTIATE OF ENGINEERING IN MACHINE AND VEHICLE SYSTEMS Active Muscle Responses in a Finite Element Human Body Model
The development of automotive safety systems is moving towards an integration of systems that are active before and during an impact. Consequently, there is a need to make a combined analysis of both the pre-crash and the in-crash phases, which leads to new requirements for Human Body Models (HBMs) that today are used for crash simulations. In the pre-crash phase the extended duration makes the...
متن کاملAn Algorithm for Rapid Adjustment of Lower Extremity Posture of a Pedestrian Model
Posture adjustment of finite element (FE) human body model is a significant step in accident reconstruction and investigation on pedestrian kinematical and injury outcomes. A rapid posture adjustment algorithm for pedestrian lower extremities was developed to account for realistic joint kinematics during a gait cycle. Under the kinematic constraints from joint anatomy, the algorithm...
متن کاملEffects of Male Stature and Body Shape on Thoracic Impact Response Using Parametric Finite Element Human Modeling
Among the whole population, small, obese, and/or older occupants are at increased risk of death and serious injury in motor-vehicle crashes compared with mid-size young men. Current adult finite element (FE) human body models (HBM) have been developed in a few body sizes (large male, midsize male, and small female) with reference body dimensions similar to those of the available physical anthro...
